A Dance For Dom Phillips, Dec 1st, London

A former Brother In Rhythm, as well as the original rave-era Mixmag editor and A&R for DMC’s label Stress Records, Dave is very much a part of the Mixmag family, and like Dom Phillips someone who’s been a huge part in shaping and soundtracking the UK club scene of the 90s and beyond – it’s… er… such a good feeling (sorry Dave!) to know Dave will be behind the decks at A Dance For Dom together with Darren Emerson, James Lavelle, Lottie, Jon Carter, Bill Brewster and Chadjackson on Thursday night.

Dave: “Dom and I go back a long way. When I was editor of Mixmag in the late 80s/early 90s I hired him as our local reporter from the Bristol area and then of course, when I moved on to start Stress Records, we brought Dom in as a full time staff member. So for a long time, we worked together from the same DMC offices sharing the excitement of the burgeoning Electronic Music culture on a daily basis. After that, we worked together again on the Global Underground compilations. And then, I contributed quite a lot to his ‘Superstar DJs, Here We Go’ book. So of course, I was keen to be a part of this event and help raise the funds to complete his book on saving the Amazon. We all know how dedicated he was to that cause and know it would mean a lot to him to see that book finished.”

“I have particularly fond memories of our times together filming the Global Underground documentaries in Buenos Aires and Melbourne when I was making my compilations from those cities. He travelled with us to document those visits and all that became part of the infamous GU ‘Getting Away With it’ programme for Channel 4. They were particularly memorable adventures”

“On Thursday I’m planning to play more of a classics set in his memory. Hopefully covering some of the music he was influential in breaking and a lot of music I think he would have loved.”

A Dance For Dom is at Spiritland, Royal Festival Hall, London SE1 on Thursday 1st December 7pm – 2am
